Costco/LEAD Network’s Sue Knowles wins 2018 Barclaycard everywoman in Retail Award

The LEAD Network is thrilled to announce that Sue Knowles, Marketing/HR Director of Costco Wholesale UK and Chair of the LEAD Network UK Chapter, recently won a prestigious Barclaycard everywoman in Retail Award. This accolade recognizes Sue as a “Leader of Change” for her expertise in identifying and developing talent and bringing out the best in people. She has created a “Journeys” network at Costco, promoting self-development through mentoring for all employees. Additionally, her work within the “Costco University” training program has helped develop over 3,000 employees.
Sue received the award on September 14, 2018 at the Barclaycard everywoman in Retail Awards in London in the presence of hundreds of business leaders from the UK’s leading retail brands. The judging panel of industry heavyweights including senior women from Stella McCartney, Burberry, Tesco, Specsavers and Amazon, selected nine inspiration winners who epitomize what makes a retailer in today’s world. The judges handpicked the trailblazers who are redefining retail to be more than the simple exchange of goods and services.

In total, nine Awards were given in categories ranging from Entrepreneur Award, Executive Leader Award, Innovator Award and Leader of Change Award (the latter won by Sue Knowles). The Awards increase awareness of the diverse range of opportunities for women in retail by shining a spotlight on role models and inspiring more women to consider a career in retail. In the UK, the retail industry employs approximately three million people, and has a predominantly female workforce.
